Report: UEFA Champions League Final – Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid (5-3 pen.) 

The final of the 2016 UEFA Champions League was played last night in the San Siro (AC Milan’s home ground). It was a contest between two Spanish local rivals; Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. With both recently finishing behind Barcelona in La Liga, this was their last chance of silverware this season. The match started off nervously and many expected not many goals to be scored. However, In the 15th minute, Toni Kroos’ free kick was flicked in by Sergio Ramos to put Real Madrid ahead, all be it from an offside position. Atletico Madrid didn’t pose much of a threat and Real Madrid looked comfortable.

The second half was much different, and as the half went on, Real Madrid look tired. Atletico were clearly the better team in the second period and were rewarded when Yannick Carrasco tucked away Juanfran’s cross from 6 yards out however before that, Madrid had had a few good opportunities to put the tie to bed but saves from The Atletico goalkeeper kept the tie alive.

The score finished 1-1 and on to extra time we went. Both teams didn’t have much to offer as many players started to get cramp. A penalty shoot out was soon upon us and when Atletico’s Juanfran’s penalty hit the post, it was set up for Ronaldo to be in the spotlight and score the winning penalty to give Real Madrid and 11th European title.
